I have some ridiculously talented friends! My good friend Meg of Meg Ruth Photography organized this amazing styled shoot with the help with some great wedding vendors! I was super stoked when she invited me to her styled shoot. She worked really hard on this project for weeks, and I was so thrilled to come and help her at her styled shoot in any way that I could. Meg has such an eye for color and detail! I wouldn’t even know how to begin to design a table like this. The colors go really well together. You can see her pictures on the Meg Ruth Photography blog or at her feature at Style Me Pretty, along with all the DIY instructions on how to recreate some of the projects, and all the vendors that came together to make this possible.

Wedding details – all white bouquet and boutonniere
April 5, 2012One of the things that I would have changed about my own wedding is my bouquet. Back then, I didn’t care too much about flowers, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on them. I just asked the florist what was in season and what kinds of flowers were sturdy, so that the flowers wouldn’t wilt in the heat. I decided that I wanted bouquet of roses and orchids and orchid boutonnieres based on her information. But the flowers I got on my wedding day were totally different than what I ordered with no explanation from the florist, and they started wilting before I even got to the reception and sadly, I had to chuck them in the trash. I understand now how crucial it is to have a good florist, especially one that is very communicative and takes the time to tell you how to care for your bouquet to make it last. So when it came time to do a personal project, I asked one of the best florists in town, Catherine of Layers of Lovely to whip up an all white bouquet for me. Unfortunately I had to postpone my project due to inclement weather, so sadly we never got to use this bouquet. But at least I can show you how pretty it is!
Layers of Lovely designed an all white bouquet with hydrangea, sweet pea, roses, and ranunculus. The sweet pea adds a hint of green for some color. I am in love with ranunculus! It is becoming my new favorite flower!

Bridal portraits
April 2, 2012Some other photographers brought along their own models to the Steampunk shoot that I featured last week. I didn’t photograph anyone else except for few photos of my friend Melissa Jack‘s super cute bride. The sun highlighted her hair beautifully and I used a reflector just to give a little bit of light on her face.
Lara + Justin’s wedding at Platinum Hotel
March 19, 2012Lara and Justin are a super stylish couple from New York, and they had one of the most memorable weddings on one of the most memorable days, 11-11-11. We hit it off from our first phone conversation, and I really enjoyed getting to know them. They are one of those types of couples that you immediately fall in love with because they are so warm and genuine. They are both opera singers and met on the set of an opera. How cool is that! They decided in the end not to sing at their wedding, so the next time I’m in New York, I’ll definitely have to catch one of their shows!
They had a 50s themed wedding, which was totally them, and everything was really reflective of the 1950s, from their attire to having a photo booth that only printed pictures in black and white, and using carnations, which was popular in the 50s (something I learned from Lara!). I loved absolutely every detail of their wedding!
I just love these glitter shoes from Kate Spade!

Christine Copeland did an amazing job with her hair and makeup and transforming her into a 1950s bride! And isn’t her lace bolero the cutest?!

I could photograph Lara all day!

Justin looking dapper with his blue velvet suit.

You can totally feel the love at this wedding! Many of the guests also dressed up in the 1950s theme too! The dress by Dolly Couture was just the cutest dress I’ve ever seen!

Lara and Justin had a 50s jazz quartet during the ceremony and they sounded amazing. Lara and Justin had old pictures of all their respective family members. After the unity candle, they started moving the frames from the two tables to the main table, symbolizing the joining of the two families. It was very touching.

There is an incredible modern bar at the Platinum Hotel with very moody blue lighting, perfect for my stylish couple!

This is one of my favorite bridal portraits. Lara really likes photography from the 1950s, and so I experimented and tried something new by lighting her in a more old Hollywood glamour style.

Lara’s family was just adorable and presented the couple with bread and salt and some other things, each with a special symbolic meaning.

Freed’s Bakery created a 50s era buttercream cake, topped off with a vintage cake topper!

Lara and Justin surprised their guests by hiring a Frank Sinatra impersonator! What a memorable way to have your first dance!

Justin meticulously picked out all songs from the 1950s for their reception. Everyone had such a fun time and Lara’s parents (on the right) were so cute and even got out on the dance floor.

The Platinum Hotel rooftop has an amazing view of the Las Vegas Strip. What a great way to end the night!

The wedding coordinator, Marie at The Platinum Hotel, was amazing and super nice! I can’t say enough good things about her and how hard she worked to make their wedding a success.

Anthem Country Club wedding :: Stephanie + Jason
January 11, 2012This is probably going to be my longest post ever! I try to not to have a really long blog posts but I have so many great images to show you from this wedding and had trouble narrowing it down. Stephanie and Jason live got married at the amazingly beautiful Anthem Country Club. The views of the Strip from the reception are incredible, especially knowing that it’s half an hour away!
The story of how Stephanie and Jason met is one of the cutest stories I have ever heard. I think I may have already blogged it when I did their engagement session a few months ago, but I love it so much I am going to tell it again. In fact, Jason retold the story to everyone during the reception and I was tearing up because it was so touching and everyone could feel the love Jason has for Stephanie. They were both in Vegas for different reasons – Stephanie was in town for her friend’s bachelorette party and Jason was in town for a job interview. They didn’t meet until the end of their Vegas stay, when they both got stuck at the airport because their flight back to Ohio got canceled. Jason said as he was trying to rebook his flight, he noticed a beautiful girl in line talking on her pink Razr (Y’all still remember those? Those seem like ages ago now!). He said it was love at first sight and they spent the new several hours getting to know each other and the rest was history. Jason got the job he interviewed at, and then some months later, Stephanie decided to make the leap and move out to Vegas too. Isn’t that the cutest story you’ve ever heard?! It sounds like something straight out of a movie.
We started out getting ready at the Tropicana Hotel.

This hallway of shops at the Tropicana is so cool and modern and I took a quick picture of the girls as we were walking to meet Jason.

Stephanie and Jason’s first look. It was honestly the most heartwarming first look I’ve ever photographed! It was so full of emotion.

We stopped at the Las Vegas sign for a quick bridal party pic.

Stephanie and Jason invited me to their rehearsal dinner the night before, insisted that I don’t take any pictures (I couldn’t help myself but I did take just a few), so it was great to get to know their families beforehand. Stephanie’s dad is so funny and I love this picture because he was so calm and happy on their wedding day.

Stephanie and Jason had a Jewish wedding, so they had a ketubah signing before the ceremony, which is an intimate ritual before the wedding and only the closest friends and family attend.

One of my favorite parts of photographing the wedding day are these next two minutes: the father walking the bride down the aisle, the groom waiting patiently to see his bride, and the father giving away his daughter. This part gets me every time!

So by the time we got to the portraits, the sun had gone down already! Thankfully I brought along an assistant for this wedding and she held my lights for me.

The reception at Anthem Country Club is so pretty! I loved their choices of having a black, white, and red theme because the red really brightened up the reception. And I looooved their cake toppers! It is a custom cake topper that looks like them in their Ohio State jerseys, feature their two cute dogs, and it even has their last name on the back, just like a real jersey!

This is where Jason gave a speech of how they first met and they opened a present from Delta, which was the plane they were supposed to fly on!

So my favorite part of Jewish weddings is definitely the hora! It is so fun having all your friends and family come out to the dance floor. Also, the reactions of people’s faces when they are hoisted up in the air like that is priceless.

I never know if my couples are going to smash each other with cake or not, but I am always ready to capture it if it does happen. ![]()

Great candid shots are also impossible to time, but they are also my favs. I adore this picture of Stephanie and Jason having a great time at their wedding.

Congrats again Stephanie and Jason! Mazel tov!
