Okay, this is the last installment of Clara and Angelo’s wedding weekend. See part 1 and part 2 here.

Angelo has worked with the church youth for a number of years, and wanted to have a special reception with them and their parents the next day. They asked me to photograph their reception right when I was starting my business, and I’ve been looking forward to this day ever since!

Beautiful updo by the extremely talented stylist Yaya Hsu.

The reception started a little late, so everyone was really happy to be finally eating!

So every time a guest could hula hoop for longer than 10 seconds, then the bride and groom had to kiss for the duration of the hula hooping! Yes, so they were kissing for a loooong time! Too bad they abandoned this game after the first two guests were able to hula hoop for several minutes. Whoever invented this game was genius!!

A lot of Chinese receptions always involve games that focus on how well the bride and groom know each other. Angelo was blindfolded and had to guess which hand was Clara’s among some other guests.

Now it’s Clara’s turn.

They both guessed the correct hand but it took them a while! It was very entertaining to watch.

They also had a photo booth with props, so here’s the lovely bride and groom giving me their most serious pose!

(This is a 3 part wedding series. See previous post for part 1, and I’ll pick up where I left off from the last post.)

Once Clara finished getting her makeup done, it was time to head to the church. We didn’t have much time before Clara was to walk down the aisle, and we quickly whisked everyone in the dressing room at the church. They church has its own theater ministry, so the dressing room looked like the dressing room at a real theater. I wish I had pics but I was helping the girls get ready and running some last minute errands for the wedding. But that’s when the hired photographer came, so I wasn’t worried about taking pictures (that’s the next post!). When Yaya finished retouching all the girls hair, we went upstairs to the sanctuary to take our seats as guests, but it was so full we ended up taking seats in the second to last row. Which meant that every picture I took had pictures of elbows of other guests taking pictures, oh well. And since I was just a guest for Saturday’s wedding, I’m just going to post a few pics.

I like the architecture of the church. However I’m always frustrated though by stained glassed windows because the light shining through it is so bright compared to the church interior.

Clara and Angelo had the shortest first kiss I’ve ever witnessed, so I was thankful that I got the shot!

Baby session

May 21, 2010

Nancy and Vic have the cutest, most adorable daughter! I had the pleasure of photographing their new family, and I could have totally photographed their baby all day! She is such a good baby and didn’t make a fuss. It’s very hard to plan baby shoots because you never know when they are going to take a nap. I was hoping that she would nap and be all refreshed when I came over to their place, but that didn’t happen. I like to think that she was too excited for her shoot hehe! Right after the session, she immediately conked out! It was so cute!

We shot this is March when we had beautiful weather, so this was one of the first times she was actually outside for an extended period of time. I don’t think she liked the wind!

I wasn’t able to take many pictures in her crib before she fell asleep on me. She’s so cute even when she’s sleeping!

Yay, spring is here! I recently had the opportunity to shoot a family session with my friends Liz and Doug when I was visiting DC last month. It was a gorgeous afternoon in Maryland, so we drove out to Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring. Most of the flowers hadn’t bloomed yet, so Liz didn’t recognize that she had actually been to this park before. In fact, they were last here for their wedding pictures! To be fair, their wedding photographer didn’t tell them where they were going, and it does look entirely different when the flowers aren’t in bloom.

Liz originally wanted pictures of only her son, but I couldn’t resist taking pictures of all three of them! I really adored capturing the interactions and the love of this family. I’ve known their son since the day he was born, and he’s always been somewhat of a shy guy, so I was thrilled when he let me take so many pictures of him! Also, special thanks to my friend Clara for assisting on this shoot and getting everyone to look at the camera!

Arts Night

January 7, 2010

I’ll be debuting my work this Saturday at Arts Night, hosted by my former church, Chinese Bible Church of Maryland! This is the third Arts Night that the Young Adult ministry has hosted, and if you live in the area, you should definitely invite your friends and check it out! It’s an awesome event featuring performances by local artists and musicians, and also displays of visual art. I submitted several photos of my macro work, which you can find on my flickr site, and also some never before seen photos so you’ll just have to go and check out Arts Night to see them! I’m bummed that I can’t make it, so someone please update me later on how everything went!

The first time I attended Arts Night, I was just blown away at how much talent there was in the local community and in my church. I was really enjoyed the spoken word part of the night, and I was really touched how some people came forward for the first time to share their personal stories. A few weeks ago when I was working late for wedding photographer Anne Ruthmann, we took a break from editing photos and went to the Revolving Museum‘s Free Verse event. It was a great performance and reminded me of the atmosphere at Arts Night, and the support and encouragement people give each other. Coincidentally, they also have an event on Saturday, so if you’re in the Boston/Lowell area, check it out!
