When I first met Harpreet and Kevin to talk about their engagement session, I knew we would be instant friends. We talked as if we already knew each other and chatted like old friends would do. And the more I talked to them, the more I knew that they were meant for each other, even though I knew them for a whole 5 minutes. Harpreet told me that she read by blog before we met and knew she would like me already because I mentioned that I really love food. Lol! I have been really busy lately so I haven’t had time to work on personal pictures, but I will try to post more personal posts and pictures of food!

Harpreet and Kevin are getting married in California next month, but they live here in Las Vegas and wanted a location that didn’t feel like Las Vegas. After scouting a few places, they really wanted to do it at Lake Las Vegas, which is a beautiful place for engagement photos. We started off the session with this really cool bridge.

This bridge was modeled after the bridge in Florence, Italy…everything’s a replica in Vegas! It’s so pretty and colorful.

This is their “blue steel” look. Then they got the giggles and started acting goofy. Love it!

I’ve known Sandy since my freshman year of college, and we bonded over our love of food. At first it was going to In-n-Out, then it was studying at burger joints because the library does not allow food- which is really not conducive for studying but at least we weren’t hungry, then we moved out of the dorms and lived in the same apartment complex. Then more burgers and also Sandy’s really yummy Chinese cooking. Okay I am making myself hungry now so I’ll stop! Fast forward years later and we both ended up 3000 miles away from California and living in Boston.

Sandy really wanted me to photograph her engagement session, so we planned for an engagement shoot about a week before I was scheduled to leave Boston. The only problem: Sandy and Scott were not engaged yet when she asked me! But they have such an amazing relationship that I was sure that Scott was going to “put a ring on it” soon. You just know when people are meant to be together! (I’ve had other couples who’ve booked me before they were engaged or have booked surprise engagement shoots, so for me it’s not uncommon. It’s funny because I think people outside the wedding world thinks it’s weird or they are old-fashioned in thinking they are jinxing themselves..like counting chickens before they are hatched. But I feel like if people are contacting me, then they’re pretty set on getting engaged.)

After trading lots of emails back and forth and discussing the merits of several locations, we decided to do something different and drive out to Rockport, a beautiful beach town. Sandy is from Orange County, so she is a beach girl at heart, though this ocean is much colder than the one she is used to! It is a really charming New England historic town, and had some great clam chowder and fried clams after our shoot! Thought we probably picked the windiest day of the year to shoot, and not surprisingly, it was even windier by the beach. But we didn’t let it bother us, and I was really happy that we didn’t change our minds.

Sandy wanted to visit one of the quarries first, so we first had to hike a short trail.

This is a huge granite quarry from the 1800s that is now empty and full of water. It is really pretty and not like other quarries I have seen. I call this my paparazzi shot because I am hiding in the bushes!

Then we wandered over to the beach and had some fun!

The wind was so powerful that it dictated which direction Sandy faced and had to keep repositioning, but it paid off because I love how the wind is flying through their hair! And the gorgeous ocean behind them!

One aspect that I really enjoy about photography is that it takes me to new places. Like this famous red shack, which even has a name: Motif Number 1.

Baseball season is now officially over, so I totally need to share this engagement session at Fenway! Kerry and Matt are big baseball fans, so we it was only fitting that we start our session at Fenway, where the Red Sox play. They even had tickets later that day to the hottest game of the season: the Red Sox-Yankee game! But unfortunately they don’t root for the same team…Matt is a Sox fan, while Kerry, who grew up in NY, is a Yankees fan. Yes, crazy to be fans of rival teams, especially in a sport-obsessed town like Boston!! But they were very excited to go to the game, and rooting for different teams doesn’t seem to bother them in the least.

I met them at their apartment since they literally live across the street from Fenway! We just have to walk across this overpass to get there.

Cuddling up next to will call. :) I tell all my couples that I love photographing couples when they wear bright cheery colors because they stand out against any background. I love it even more when they listen to me!

Then we cabbed over to the Public Garden for a change of scenery.

Kerry and Matt were smart enough to bring a blanket because the ground was still wet from rain. The blue blanket really brings out the the blue in Kerry’s eyes!

We started the session early, so we stopped by Dunkin’ Donuts for some coffee and donuts. Kerry really loves donuts and wanted me to get a picture of her eating one! And the donut matches her outfit! A girl after my own heart. :)

Emily and Grant are getting married this Saturday and I am so excited to shoot their wedding at the MIT chapel! I knew Emily and I were going to hit it off when we met because we have the same name! What’s not to like?! When we were planning their engagement session, Emily brought up the idea of doing a few shots in Cambridge, where they live, and then driving over to Charlestown. I’ve never been to that part of Boston, and I looked forward to exploring the historical neighborhoods and the harbor. It was a great session and here are some of the highlights.

I love how the light is hitting them. This makes getting up early on a Saturday totally worth it.

We went over to Charlestown Harbor and found some cool distressed buildings.

There’s a lot of random stuff laying around like logs and shipping weights. We had a lot of fun exploring the area.

The view from the harbor was breathtaking! I find it really strange that there are no benches for you to enjoy the view, but there are benches on the other side with absolutely no view. So we found a log and turned it into a makeshift bench.

I love getting shots of my couples laughing. It’s one of the best parts of my job.

We drove endlessly until I found the perfect street for us. Almost all the streets have parking on both sides, and I was desperately looking for one with parking on one side only so the cars wouldn’t get in the way of the shot. We circled for many blocks until we found this street. I love the houses here because they are so colorful and different from the brownstones in Boston. I had them run up the street even though it was one of the hottest days of the summer, and I was able to get this shot. Love how cute they are!
