Harvard girls photoshoot

September 24, 2009

I had the honor of assisting Shang Chen Photography on Labor Day! We had an awesome session with five Harvard girls who wanted to do a group shoot! Such a great idea! It was only fitting then that we take them on the Harvard campus, and then took some shots by the Charles River. I carried a lot of bags that day and observed Shang’s shooting style. Every once in a while, I was able to take a shot or two, but she is so fast at shooting and posing that I could barely keep up! Thanks Shang for letting me shadow! Click here to see her pictures and blogpost about the shoot.

I love how Shang posed them here with the two girls laying down!  So cute!

The girls were so sweet and invited us to eat with them in their dorm cafeteria after the shoot.  It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten at a dorm, and I have to say, I kinda miss it! The food was really yummy and the dining hall looked a little like Hogwarts! Thanks girls!

Hiking in New Hampshire

September 18, 2009

The weather was beautiful over Labor Day weekend, so we decided to take advantage of the good weather and go hiking up in New Hampshire, which was only about an hour away. Since I don’t know the area that well, I looked at Google Maps to find nearby parks around me and found Odiorne Point State Park. Wow, this park is a hidden gem and the pictures speak for themselves! This park is really unique because there are so many different landscapes over the stretch of just one mile. There are rocky beaches, sandy beaches, and pebbly beaches. If you decide to visit, bring some bug spray because there are tons of mosquitos!

I looked like an idiot chasing these dragonflies around because they wouldn’t stay in one place, but I finally got a picture of not one, but two!

My friend Jen runs an amazing food blog at Tiny Urban Kitchen.  I was honored when she invited me over to her place for dinner and eat various dishes in the shape of Japanese cartoon characters.  You can read how she made each dish here.

Isn’t this the cutest dinner you’ve ever seen?   She also has a bunch of stuff animals, so we included them in the pic.

The Keroppi frogs are made with white chocolate with food coloring.  Genius!

What’s better than ending a meal with chocolate covered rice crispie treats!

Monique and Michael

September 10, 2009

Frank and I flew to sunny California a few weeks ago for my former college roommate’s wedding.  I knew before I even landed that it was going to be a fabulous wedding because Monique is so great at planning and organizing.  She was so organized, when we arrived at the ceremony, she was greeting us at the gate instead of running around getting ready!  Monique was a really relaxed bride considering she woke up super early, had two tea ceremonies in two different locations, and lunch with all her relatives, all before the ceremony and ten-course Chinese banquet!  Not to mention she did her own flowers and centerpieces the night before!  I loved all the details she incorporated into the wedding, and how well she was able to transform Michael’s parents’ backyard into a beautiful outdoor wedding venue!  I had so much fun taking Monique’s wedding, and I made sure to stay way behind from her professional photographers, which made me really wish I owned a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

Isn’t this lemonade stand adorable?

Monique wore several dresses throughout the day and looked AMAZING in all of them!

I really love her floral arrangements! They were so stunning and modern. The parasols came in handy because it was really hot! The only problem was that everyone was using them and blocking my view of the ceremony! I was constantly shifting in my seat, and finally, I just walked all the way up the aisle to get some shots.

Sadly, some guests made off with all the champagne, so the restaurant brought out red wine instead. I didn’t know about the mishap until later, and I thought they planned on toasting with red wine! Regardless, I loved how this picture turned out.

This was my first time seeing a photo booth at a wedding and it was so cool! There was a line for the booth the whole night.

Inaugural post!

September 8, 2009

I thought I’d welcome you all to my new blog with a picture of a cute bunny that I saw in my front yard this evening!   I wasn’t even sure I’d get this shot because I thought the odds are against me:  it’s dark outside, he’s far away, and he’s going to jump away once I move towards him.  I prayed that he might still be there while I ran back inside the house and immediately grabbed the camera, the flash, and my telephoto lens.  Sure enough, he didn’t move!  I figured I had one shot before I scared him with the flash, which proved to be harder than I thought because it was so dark I really had trouble getting my camera to autofocus.  My first shot was a little blurry because I accidentally focused on the grass instead of the bunny, but he was still there!  So I tried again, and this time I got him in focus!  I just gained a new appreciation for my 70-300 lens!
